Stephanie will tell you. She loves living at the beach and on an island. Particularly THIS island. Her art is inspired by her environment, and it totally shows. Whether it’s on the beach, on the water, under the water, in the marshes or in the sound, she enjoys creating her own interpretations and expressions of the wildlife and their natural surroundings. Textures, colors, patterns, shapes, movement all play a part in Stephanie’s pieces. She moves from realism in soft pastel work to bold graphic shapes, patterns and colors in her colored pencil, ink and silk painting work.

Stephanie graduated from the School of Design at North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in graphic design. As she had always enjoyed drawing and illustrating, she began pursuing a career as a working artist when she moved to Hatteras Island in 1996. She has been very successfully selling her art to countless customers through galleries and stores both nationwide and abroad. She applies her art to a variety of products - from prints and wall art to functional objects such as cutting boards, iPhone cases, coasters, ceramic tiles and more - all in her Buxton studio. Any product you purchase from her was likely completely produced by her hand, right here on the Island.

She feels lucky to be able to enjoy the natural beauty of they area and experience it much of the time through surfing and kiteboarding. Along with the exhilaration of those sports, they give her the chance to be surrounded by the sights, sounds and smells of the water, wind and wildlife that inspire her so much.
