English artist and designer, Vicky Lowe, has made her home in Avon for around 10 years. The first twenty years of her career were spent working in textile and dinnerware design in London and New York. Perhaps you have some of her design work in your closet or your kitchen cupboards that you aren’t even aware of! Her dinnerware designs constantly stock the shelves of well-known stores such as Target, Crate & Barrel, Williams-Sonoma, and Pier 1 Imports, and have been printed onto high end dinnerware by brands such as Lenox. Though she still designs for other companies, she has a locally based line of home goods called “A Good Catch” that’s all her own.
Primarily working in fabrics, Vicky does all of her designs in watercolor in her home studio here on the island. She sends the designs to Durham, NC to have them printed with eco-friendly inks onto high quality linen/cotton. The exciting part for Vicky is when the rolls of fabric arrive at her studio from the printer and she gets to see how they turned out for the first time. From there, the fabric is made into tea towels/dish towels, table runners, pillows, and aprons. Seasonal items include headbands, fleece hats, and other fun accessories. The short version? Her items are of wonderful quality and 100% made in the USA.
Working primarily in watercolors, Vicky’s style is fresh and cheerful and her themes are local with lots whimsy added in. It’s really hard to hold back a smile when looking at her work. Most of her designs are available as prints, and she is happy to discuss commission work as well. Do you have a pet you’d love to have painted? Pet portraiture is, indeed, her forte. Should you ever like to discuss commission options with Vicky, please don’t hesitate to email us at heythere@swellartgallery.com and we will be happy to put you in touch!
